Bridges and routers are fundamental

A bridge primarily connects multiple network segments at the data link layer, filtering traffic and reducing network congestion by forwarding data only to the segment where it’s needed. This makes bridges ideal for extending networks without overwhelming them with unnecessary traffic. On the other hand, routers operate at the network layer, directing data packets between different networks based on IP addresses. They determine the most efficient path for data to travel, enabling communication across diverse networks, including the internet. While bridges excel at linking similar network types, routers are essential for connecting different networks and managing complex traffic patterns. Both devices complement each other in modern networking environments: bridges simplify local network management, and routers enable broader connectivity and intelligent routing.
